Consulting & advisory · THE LAB AI Work Audit™
AI workflow audit for consulting and advisory firms.
Consultants were early and heavy adopters of AI for research, synthesis, proposals, and deliverables. Clients pay for judgment. This audit examines one workflow to see how much of the judgment is now the model’s, and who checks it.
The consulting workflow is unusually exposed: AI is used at the front (research and framing), in the middle (analysis and synthesis), and at the end (writing the deliverable). Each stage can introduce an inference that reads as a finding. By the time it reaches the client, nobody remembers it was a guess.
THE LAB AI Work Audit™ walks one deliverable workflow end to end and marks, stage by stage, what was read from a source, what was inferred, where a partner or lead approved, and how the claims in the final document were verified.
Where consulting AI workflows blur
Research that cannot be traced
Findings in a deliverable came from an AI research pass, and the underlying sources were never captured.
Synthesis becomes the analysis
The model’s framing of the problem shapes the recommendation, and nobody examined the framing itself.
Proposals promise what the template said
AI-drafted proposals carry scope, timing, or capability statements that were not deliberately chosen.
Partner review is at the end only
Senior review happens on the finished document, after the inferences are baked in and hard to see.
What the audit looks at
One workflow, examined end to end in a 60–90 minute session.
- One deliverable workflow, from research through client-ready document.
- Where the model contributed facts, framing, or recommendations, and how each is labeled internally.
- Which client information enters the tool and whether the engagement terms permit it.
- Where senior approval sits, and whether it sits early enough to catch inferences.
- How claims in the deliverable are verified before the client sees them.
You receive written findings within 48 hours: AI Workflow Map, Human Approval Gates, Verification Checklist, Three Priority Corrections, and a 30-Day Action Target. See the full method.
Questions
- We already have a QA process. Why an audit?
- Most QA processes were designed before AI drafted the material. The audit checks whether the existing process still catches the new failure modes — inferred facts, borrowed framing, untraced sources — and adjusts the checklist accordingly.
- Can this cover multiple engagement types?
- The Founding Pilot covers one workflow. Firms typically choose the deliverable type with the highest volume or the highest consequence and apply the corrections elsewhere themselves.
- Is this a compliance certification or legal advice?
- No. The audit is an operational review of one workflow. It is not legal advice, a compliance certification, a cybersecurity penetration test, or a guarantee that risk has been eliminated.
- Do you need access to our systems or client data?
- No. The audit is a structured walkthrough with the people who run the work. We do not ask for logins, and we ask you not to share credentials or sensitive customer records.
